Frequently Asked Quesions

Q. Do I need a doctor's referral to receive private physiotherapy treatment?

A. No, but if you have private health insurance they often state that you need a GP's referral in order to authorise your treatment.

Q. Is the Physiotherapist qualified?

A. All Chartered Physiotherapists have to be state registered (SRP) and to have undergone the required training. The Letters MCSP (Member of Chartered Society Physiotherapy) and SRP are essential following a name and the addition of BSc (Hons) is proof of a degree in physiotherapy.

Q. What can physiotherapists treat?

A. Chartered Physiotherapists are qualified to treat all areas of the body. They are essentially movement specialists, therefore able to treat spinal problems, muscular and ligamentous injuries, fractures, post-operative surgery and also assess and correct postural problems at workstations.

Q. What treatments do physiotherapists use?

A. Therapies range from mobilisations and manipulation of joints and spinal segments, scar tissue massage, exercise and strengthening regimes, hydrotherapy, stretches and taping to name a few.

Q. How quickly can I be seen?

A. We will endeavour to return your call on the same day and try to offer an appointment within 48 hours of request.

Q. What does an appointment consist of?

A. An initial consultancy lasting for 45 minutes, with explanation of problem and treatment plan. Follow-up appointments then lasting ½ hour each treatment.

Q. How much is each appointment?

A. The initial consultancy is £40, with follow-up sessions at £25 each treatment.

Q. How often will I have to attend?

A. Essentially the choice is yours, however the physiotherapist will advise you in their professional capacity on the expected number of sessions required.

Q. What should I wear?

A. In many cases the physiotherapists will need to see and assess the affected part of the body and surrounding joints, so having suitable underwear on is advisable especially if you have a spinal problem.
